Rupture of the cruciate ligaments is a trauma that occurs in knee sprains. The anterior cruciate ligament controls the stability of the knee in torsional movements. Its presence is necessary for pivot sports such as football, rugby, skiing, combat sports, etc.
Surgery involves replacing the torn ligament with a graft. It is performed under arthroscopy (video assistance) on an outpatient basis. Two types of operation are possible to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament, depending on the type of graft chosen: either from the hamstring (DIDT or, more recently, DT4) or from part of the patellar tendon (KJ). These 2 procedures produce the same result. The choice of graft will depend on your sports profile and the surgeon's habits.
Rehabilitation begins immediately after the operation. It takes 3 months to resume on-axis sports (cycling, jogging, swimming) and 6 months to resume pivot sports. The return to competition is generally around the 7th month.
